Accommodation

Should you need any help with your accommodation, please contact our staff at the registration desk.

Airport

Prague International airport handles flights from within Europe and from overseas. It is located 30-45 minutes by car from the city centre. The airport is well served by public transportation – buses and taxis.

Badges

You will receive your personalized name badge at the registration. The name badge must be worn at all times to access the sessions and the Symposium social events. Admittance to the sessions and the social events without badge is not possible. Only full participants may attend the sessions. No accompanying persons will be allowed to the session hall.

C

Cash machines

There is a cash machine at the Registration area in the venue. Cash machines of the major local banks are located near the metro station Dejvicka.

Certificate of attendance

The certificate of attendance is to be issued at the Registration desk as of the morning on Thursday, 15 July.

Climate

Prague is a city with a “mild continental climate”. July is said to be the warmest month of the year in the Czech republic; the temperatures above 30°C are not unusual. However, rain and storms can occur during this time too.

Cloakroom

Staffed cloakroom is located near the Registration area, coats and luggage may be left during the Symposium hours.

Currency / Exchange

The Czech currency is called the Czech crown (CZK). Banknotes are circulated in values of 5 000, 2 000, 1 000, 500, 200, 100 and 50 crowns with coins valued as 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 crowns.
Exchange offices are located throughout the city centre (exchange offices, banks, post offices).
Exchange services are also available at the reception of the Symposium venue and in the banks at Vítězné náměstí approx. 10 minutes walking distance from the venue.
It is advisable to exchange money rather in banks than in the high street exchange offices.

Doctor / First Aid

In urgent matters, dial 112 to get specialized help. No first aid service is available at the Symposium venue.
For medical assistance of non-urgent character, a local clinic may be helpful. The closest state-owned hospital with non-stop service is located in Prague 5 (approx. 15 mins by taxi from the Symposium venue):

E

Electricity

Electricity used in Czech Republic is 220 Volts; standard European system of round pins with two holes. A transformer is necessary for your electrical or electronic equipment if using different voltage (ie. USA, Canada).

Food and beverages

Coffee-breaks and lunches are included in the registration fee.
Coffee breaks are served in the poster area, lunches are served in the Academic restaurant.

Guided tours

For assistance on guided tours, please check with our staff at the Registration desk.
The meeting point for both guided tours is located in front of the Diplomat Hotel. Please make sure to arrive 15 minutes prior to the planned start of the tour.

Healthcare

When travelling around the Czech Republic you might need medical assistance. You can be sure you will be treated with high European standards. In Prague itself there are 11 hospitals, all are capable of providing you with qualified and professional medical aid. If any assistance is needed please contact our registration staff.

Information

The Registration desk staff will be happy to help you on any questions you may have with regards to the Symposium or any other matters.

Insurance and Liability

The Organisers do not accept liability for personal injury or loss or damage to private property of participants and accompanying persons either during or while travelling to the Symposium.

Internet

There is free wi-fi available at the Symposium session hall; to log on, please use the network ATMEL 1 or ATMEL 2. No password is requested.

Messages

A message board will be located in the exhibition area. You can post your messages there.

Mobile phones

Participants are kindly requested to keep their mobile phones in the off position in the Symposium session hall while sessions are being held.

P

Parking

Participants arriving by car are advised to use the underground parking space available at the Diplomat Hotel underground garages. Parking fees are not included in the registration fee.

Pharmacy

The nearest pharmacy is located in Vítězné náměstí, about 10 minutes walking distance from the Symposium venue. Please check with the Registration desk for further details on the location.

Poster area

The poster area is located in two individual rooms adjacent to the Symposium session hall – “Salonek” and “Galerie” rooms. All authors of poster abstracts received poster guidelines with assigned poster number. Please mount your poster to the assigned poster board (marked by your number) at the time scheduled for your session (poster numbers P 001 – P 080, P 083, P 084, P 101, P 127 to be mounted for Wednesday, poster numbers P 081 and further to be mounted on Thursday). In case any assistance is needed please ask the hostess at the poster desk in the poster area. Please make sure you remove your poster before the scheduled time (poster numbers P 001 – P 080, P 083, P 084, P 101, P 127 on Wednesday before 18.00 and poster numbers P 081 and further on Friday before 16.00). Posters left behind are to be destroyed.

Presentation submission

Power Point presentations only (CD, USB stick) may be used. A data projector and laptop will be at your disposal. Should you need to use your own laptop, please inform the Speakers’ corner technician. Please make sure to take your presentation to the Speakers’ corner no later than 2 hours prior to your assigned lecture time.

Program changes

The organizers cannot assume liability for any changes in the program due to the external or unforeseen circumstances.

Cancellation policy / Name changes

Onsite cancellations are applicable to cancellation fee in full.
Name changes not notified in advance will be treated as a new registration.

Safety

Prague is among the most popular destinations in the world. Compared to many Western cities, Prague is relatively safe. You will generally find policemen very helpful. Prague is an unthreatening city to walk around. Violent crimes in the city centre are rare. The main criminal problem is petty pilfering (pickpockets) from cars, hotels, and pockets. As with any city, always use caution and care when travelling around.

Shopping

Most of the shops in Prague are open from 09.00 to 18.00, Monday through Saturday. Shops in the city centre are usually open from 09.00 to 20.00, Monday through Sunday. All major credit cards are accepted.

Smoking policy

Smoking is forbidden in all Symposium areas.

Speakers’ corner

The Speakers’ corner is located in the poster area (sign-posted onsite). Please make sure to hand in your presentation at least 2 hours prior to the start of your assigned session. Our staff in the Speakers’ corner will be happy to assist you. The Speakers’ corner is open during the Symposium days:

Symposium dinner (Beer party)

The official informal Symposium dinner takes place at the Grand Monastery Restaurant as of 19.00 on Wednesday, 14 July. For further details, please refer to Social programme section.

Symposium language

The Symposium language is English. No interpretation is provided.

T

Taxi

When taking a taxi, make sure the taxi is equipped with a permanently installed yellow roof lamp with the TAXI sign in black letters. The registration number, company name and the price per kilometer and one-minute-waiting rate must be displayed on both front doors with the prices set on the meter inside the cab. Participants are recommended to order a taxi with non-stop dispatching office where the information on fares is available in advance. AAA Taxi provides excellent service within Prague (phone No. 14014).

Time

The Czech Republic lies within the Central European Time zone, i.e. GMT+1 hour. Daylight savings time (GMT+2 hours) is in effect from the end of March until the end of September.

Tipping

Service is almost always included in hotel and restaurant bills. A further tip of a few coins is appropriate. Typically, the tipping in restaurants would be around 5-10%, tourist guide 10%.

Transportation

The public transportation in Prague is very easy and efficient; the journey to the city centre from the Symposium venue (Dejvicka station) takes some 15 minutes - line A, no additional transfers are needed to get to the city centre (Mustek, Muzeum).

Metro (Subway, Underground)
The Prague Metro network consists of 3 lines designated by letters and differentiated in colour: A - green colour, B - yellow colour, C - red colour, with transfers possible at Museum station (lines A and C), Mustek station (lines A and B), Florenc station (lines B and C). Metro operates daily from 05.00 to 24.00.

Trams
Daytime operation is from 04.30 to 24.00. Night time operation is from 00.30 to 04.30 and is provided by tram numbers 51 to 58 with traffic intervals 30 minutes. The central transfer-station for night time lines is Lazarska stop. Tram schedules are located at individual stops.

Buses
The daytime and night time operation of buses is similar to tram operation. Night time service is provided by bus numbers 501 to 514. Bus schedules are located at individual stops.

Fares
Basic ticket 26 CZK or Limited ticket 18 CZK.
The ticket is valid for 75 minutes after marking.
In trams and buses limited ticket is valid for 20 minutes after marking and does not allow changing lines. In the underground the limited ticket is valid for 5 stations (excluding the starting station), allows transfers between the underground lines and is valid for 30 minutes after marking.

V

Venue

Masarykova kolej / Masaryk dorms building is a property of the Czech Technical University in Prague. Apart from providing student accommodation for the University students the venue provides conference facilities and accommodation for public use. Both the airport and the city centre are easily accessible by public transportation (for the airport a direct bus No.119 and for the city centre the subway line A from Dejvická stop).
